WHERE ARE WE

    INS Shivaji at Lonavla is situated between two major cities viz Mumbai (Bombay) and Pune (show map) . The following information will prove useful to reach us:-

(a)    By Air :     Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji International airport is the nearest international airport located near this unit.   Mumbai is 120 kms away from Lonavla. Pune is 65kms away from Lonavla and is connected by air to Mumbai by domestic Indian airlines flights.

(b)    By Rail :    Lonavla is well connected by rail route from Mumbai and Pune. The main railway line  from Mumbai to Pune passes through Lonavla and all trains halt at Lonavla railway station. Pune is also connected by local trains. Train timings of all major trains from Mumbai and Pune are listed in the section of useful information. Transport will be arranged for receiving you at Lonavla railway station. Kindly send your travel details well in advance to arrange reception.

(c)    By Road : The Mumbai Pune national highway no.4 and expressway pass through Lonavla. Taxies from Mumbai international airport can be hired to come to INS Shivaji. The distance of 120 kms can be covered in approximately 2 hours. Similarly taxies can be hired from Pune airport to reach INS Shivaji if journey is resorted to by air from Mumbai to Pune. The distance by road from Pune to Lonavla is about 65kms and can be covered in one and a half hours.

LOCATION AND CLIMATE

        INS Shivaji is located 8 kms away from the township of Lonavla. the temperature varies between 16 and 30 degree Celsius. The south west monsoons bring heavy rain in this area from June to September. During monsoons, Lonavla, including surrounding areas remain covered under a blanket of clouds attracting tourists from far off places. This being a low altitude hill resort, you may like to carry some light woolens. However summer uniforms are worn throughout the year
