INS Shivaji, the premier technical training establishment of the Indian Navy, can perhaps be termed as the ‘highest ship' in the world. Nestled amongst the picturesque hills of Sahyadri ranges in the Western Ghats at a height of 620 meters, this well equipped naval establishment can boast of state of the art training technology and infrastructure to take on the onerous task of training technical officers and sailors for the Indian Navy. These are the men, who make warships at sea float and sail, and ensure through quality maintenance, that the fighting potential of the fleet always remains at peak.

Being the only entry point for technical officers in the Navy, imparting basic training to officers of both mechanical and electrical engineering branches, INS Shivaji is aptly termed the ‘Alma mater' for all naval technical officers. In addition to the basic and specialist training for engineering sailors of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, personnel from friendly foreign navies are also trained here. In fact, Shivaji conducts 81 courses with an annual throughput of approximately 5500 personnel.
