The Cadets Training Department was instituted with the advent of the 10+2 (Tech) Scheme in 1985. Cadets undergo a 4-year course at the Naval College of Engineering (NCE) leading to a B. Tech degree. For the first three years of their stay, these "greenhorns" are actively monitored by the Cadets Training Department and are given extensive opportunities in personality development, military training and sports activities. The products of this course have been doing Shivaji proud through their professional successes and display of sterling qualities in keeping with the best traditions of Naval Service. Naval Engineering Course: The Naval Engineering Course is the cradle for 10+2 Technical cadets being groomed to man the expanding Indian Navy. Since its inception, the Cadets Training Department has had the privilege of training over 1100 cadets enabling them to attain the requisite academic standard and helping them to acquire the moral, physical and professional qualities essential for their progressive and continued development as future officers of the navy. Whilst training, the cadets are provided with ample opportunity to hone their skills and nurture talents in varied fields, with an objective of all round balanced development. To this end, the cadets are exposed to a range of extracurricular activities essential for their character building. Naval College of Engineering: Naval College of Engineering is replete with every facility required to transform these young men into capable and professional officers. The pristine surroundings and salubrious locale of the college provides an ideal training ground for these leaders of tomorrow. Accommodation: The 1st year cadets stay at Old Cadets Complex whilst the 2nd & 3rd year cadets are accommodated in the New Cadets Complex. The Old Cadet Complex (OCC) has 7 dormitories of which 4 are utilised for accommodating cadets. The others form the motivation hall & billiards room, gymnasium, cafeteria & laundry. These dormitories have been renovated with ergonomic furniture and partitions besides building repairs to upgrade the living standards of the 1 st year cadets and to give a new look to the Old Cadets Complex. The New Cadets Complex (NCC), houses Vikrant / Viraat block and the Cadets Mess. These blocks in addition also house various clubs and common facilities, an eco friendly sewage disposal system, an Ecopark, and Vermiculture to dispose galley and garden waste. SILVER JUBILEE OF NAVAL ENGINEERING COURSE The 10+2 (Tech) entry for the cadets, known as the Naval Engineering Course (NEC) at INS Shivaji celebrated its Silver Jubilee from 20 to 21 Nov 09. The Naval Engineering Course which had a modest beginning at INS Shivaji in 1984 has over the last 24 years provided yeoman service to the Navy by training officers who now number over a thousand. To commemorate the hallmark event of Silver Jubilee of the Naval Engineering Course in an appropriate manner, various celebratory and commemorative events spread over the year were organised which included cycle expedition, parasailing, paragliding, rock climbing, sky diving etc culminating into a two day event at Shivaji. The celebrations commenced with a “ Lonavla Run ” organised with an aim of “ Clean and Green Lonavla ”. A total of 1000 participants flooded the streets of Lonavla carrying the motto of the run “ Clean and Green Lonavla ” on their shirts. The main events of the Silver Jubilee were organised with much fanfare. The evening of 20 Nov saw the “ Camp Fire ” event at the cadets' outdoor training arena. The cadets put up an exhilarating entertainment show which was followed by fireworks display and an Art and Craft exhibition . A total number of 700 guests, which included the alumni and the people responsible for shaping the NEC, graced the occasion. The morning of 22 Nov saw the parade ground being set on fire by the cadets with their flawless demonstration of “ Continuity Drill ” which was a display of perfection and camaraderie the cadets are trained for. The skies of Lonavla then witnessed a breathtaking aerobatics display by the planes of the Indian Navy's aerobatics team “ Sagar Pawan ”. The aerobatics display left the spectators speechless and were enthralled with the event which happened for the first time at INS Shivaji.
