Recruitment Information

Role : The responsibilities of Education Department of INS Shivaji span several training and administrative areas. It includes running of School of Basic Sciences , conduct of Educational Examinations, Recruitment Cell, Public Relations Office and administration of Ships Reference Library. It also undertakes administration of schools in station such as Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lonavla and Naval Kindergarten. In addition several other sections such as Hindi Cell, Training Management Cell, Historic Archival Cell and Ship's Photo Section function under the department.

School of Basic Sciences : It undertakes training to Apprentices, Mechanicians and other trainee sailors in basic science and engineering subjects. The School has a Basic Sciences Lab and Language Lab. The training in the school is prelude to their specialisation courses at CMET.

Conduct of Educational Examinations : In order to improve upon career prospects of the sailors latest information is disseminated in respect of the educational policies/schemes. Coaching classes are also conducted for preparing the sailors adequately for the examinations. The department also co-ordinates the Indira Gandhi National Open University Navy Educational Project (INEP). The Online Examination Cell marks the challenging and changing face of examinations in the Indian Navy, a relatively new project.

 

Public Relations : The Public Relations Cell is the nodal agency that coordinates public relations requirements of the station, interaction with media and with local population.

Ship's Reference Library : The station has a modern reference library that spans over 600 sqm of area. It has various sections such as News Bay , Cyber Bay , Information Square and Books issue/reference sections. It stocks over 30,000 books. Ship's Information Square displays pictorial information and other material aimed at promoting general education.

 

Naval Kindergarten : The station has a modern Kindergarten for providing quality pre-primary education to the tiny tots of personnel. The Naval Kindergarten stands over an area of 2760.52 sqm and has expansive range of educative play items for the children.

Kendriya Vidyalaya : Kendriya Vidyalaya in the station has classes from primary to higher secondary. It has about 700 students and 35 teachers. The Vidyalaya has been accorded with the status of Model School by KV Sangathan. The results of the Vidyalaya have traditionally been very good. Last academic year results: - Standard X – 100%; Standard XII- 90.9 %( for both Science and Commerce streams).

Recruitment Cell : The Recruitment Cell undertakes recruitment of Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR), Artificer Apprentices (AA) & DE (DH) twice a year as INS Shivaji being a NRE (Naval Recruiting Establishment).

Hindi Cell : A Hindi Cell conducts various activities such as In-Service Hindi Exams, generating awareness amongst the personnel about the Hindi Incentive Schemes and performs various translation/transcription works in Hindi. As a part of Official Language Implementation the Hindi Cell conducts Hindi Workshop and Hindi coaching classes. The establishment has won Dakshin Nausena Kaman Raj Bhasha Rolling Shield three times consecutively in a row.

Yoga Training Sessions: In order to derive health benefits through regular practices of Yoga, the personnel were given a three day training sessions on Yoga by Pathanjali Yog Peeth, Pune.

Automatic Weather Station : An Automated Weather Monitoring System (AWS) is functioning in the station. It records various parameters such as Temperature, Atmospheric Pressure, Humidity, Wind Direction, Wind Speed, Rainfall, period of Sun Shine. The system is installed as part of Satellite Based Automatic Weather Station Network under the aegis of ISRO.

 

Scholarships :

Scholarships are awarded to girl children of personnel of INS Shivaji who score highest aggregate marks in X and XII Standards. The students received the scholarship during last academic year (2009-10)
