Centre Of Marine Engineering Technology

Professional Wings

The Centre of Marine Engineering Technology (CMET) imparts  specialised  training in the field of marine engineering to  graduate Officers who have completed  B Tech (Mechanical Engineering), sailors of Indian  and friendly foriegn naviesClick here for our Friendly Foreign Navies and civilians. The courses conducted by CMET include ab-initio training for sailors, qualifying courses for artificers and non artificers, specialisation course for Marine Engineer Officers, professional training on subjects like ‘Noise and Vibrations' and pre-commissioning training in Marine Engineering as well as Power Generation and Distribution for Executive, Engineering and Electrical officers. On an average 190 courses are conducted each year, with a throughput of approx 3000 trainees. The duration of courses range from one week to four year diploma course for Engine Room Artificers.

Professional training at CMET is conducted at eight specialised training wings namely Steam Machinery, Diesel Engine, Gas Turbine, Auxiliary Machinery, Instrumentation & Controls, Industrial Training, Computer Application Centre & Engineering Pre Commission Training School.

CMET has three additional departments namely Divisional Organisation Trainees (DOT), Training Design and Evaluation Cell (TDEC) and Co-Ordination departments. The DOT conducts outdoor training for the ab-initio courses of undertrainee sailors and also administers their welfare. TDEC is an independent agency, tasked with conducting examination, evaluation including compilation of results, monitoring and analysis of feedback in respect of each course. This cell assesses requirements for training of civilian personnel borne in the establishment and formulates comprehensive training programmes for specialised skill / trade specific training through various institutions.

Naval Engineering History Society The Naval Engineering Museum at INS Shivaji traces the evolution of marine propulsion from the earlier sail ship era to latest gas turbine powered ships. The Museum is divided into four basic sections displaying artifacts and equipment of sail ships as well as equipment from ships powered by steam turbines, diesel engines and gas turbines. The Museum and Motivation Hall are administered through Naval Engineering History Society (NEHS), which has been formed at this establishment under the Maharashtra Society Act.

The Journal of Marine Engineering The Journal of Marine Engineering (JME) is a bi-annual Marine Engineering publication with articles covering entire field of Marine Engineering.

Simulator Training : Emphasis is laid on simulator training for various classes of ships. Advanced simulators on main propulsion and power generation of destroyers and corvettes are available at the Engineering Pre Commission Training School and Computer Application Centre. Latest addition is the Integrated Training Simulator (ITS) for P-17 and LST(L) class of ships.
